Fall Photo Locations in Boise Idaho

Each season brings a different look to your family photos.  I compiled a list of my most shot locations.  This post is for Fall photo locations in Boise Idaho. It is important to remember when choosing a location for fall family photos that fall can look different each year but the tones of the backdrop will most likely look the same.  A lot of tons will catch the last little bit of summer greens and the start of fall color and brown tones.  There are many locations around the treasure valley.  These are just the ones that seem to get reused throughout the years of fall photos. Above photo is Star River Walk. I also have a bunch of different locations on this Engagement Session Planning blog post. Click HERE

Wilson Ponds Nampa Idaho

Wilson Ponds is a great location that offers different looks without a ton of walking.  Usually the Russian Olive trees give a beautiful sage green tone and then the overgrown grass sets off a brown tone especially the closer to November you get. Remember the mosquitoes tend to come out so bug spray is always a good idea.

Boise River

I shoot in Eagle along the Boise river several times a year. The fall is great.  This spot also looks great in the Morning hours.  If you have young kids it’s always a good choice.  Most of these were shot in the morning hours.  It gives pretty filtered light that comes through the trees.  When the leaves change here you will see some yellows.

Fall Orchard Sessions

There are two main orchards that I shoot at.  One is in Kuna and the other is out in Caldwell.  Depending on when your session is, you can get apples on the trees.  Two of these were before the leaves changed and the other was deep into fall when the leaves turned colors. Both are pretty.  Plan your outfits accordingly.

Albertson’s Park

Albertsons Park in the heart of Boise, Idaho is always a good choice however it really comes with some HUGE downsides.  Because of the variety it offers it is also CRAZY BUSY and is probably one of my least favorite places to shoot.  It’s just too busy.  If you love this location I suggest a week night as weekend nights are almost impossible.  They did recently start not allowing people to walk anywhere but the paths provided as it is a nature preserve.

Albertson Park

Camel’s Back Park Boise, Idaho

Another nature park located just outside of Downtown Boise.  It also produces those golden tones and in September you also get a few sunflowers here and there.  This park you really need to watch your light because it will go behind the hill quickly and I recommend planning your session about 1.5 hours before sunset.

Military Reserve Boise, Idaho

The Military Reserve aka a huge dog park.  Gives wonderful golden tones and if you are wanting to hike it also gives a great view of the city.  I have done several sessions over the years here.  It is a hike to get that city view but it’s always worth it and best right before sunset as the light is pretty harsh up there.  There is a pretty steep set of stairs to get up for the views so keep that in mind.

Boise Train Depot

Though I have shot lots of couples here throughout the years for engagements and weddings.  I have photographed a few families here.  It offers several different looks and is always a good choice if you are wanting something different.
