Ruth and Alex’s St John’s Cathedral Wedding

St John’s Cathedral Wedding in Boise Idaho. Ruth and Alex’s wedding day was not at all what they had planned. Their wedding and celebration was to be grand. It was taking place in three different beautiful locations in downtown Boise. Every detail had been thought out and planned. A month-and-a-half ago Ruth reached out to me and told me that they were postponing their celebration until 2021. This is the case for so many brides and grooms that have had to do this. I was delighted when Ruth said that they were still planning on having a small ceremony on their original date. It’s a pretty awesome date 06-06-20. Their ceremony was very intimate and very special because of Covid-19. They got married at the beautiful St. John’s Cathedral in downtown Boise. It is probably one of the most gorgeous cathedrals I’ve ever had the opportunity to photograph. Their guest list was limited to their immediate family, and a video camera so that the rest of their extended family were able to hear the wonderful messages that were read and be a part of their wedding day. There were also some heirloom details that were special to Ruth. She wore a veil and also held a Rosary that has been present in weddings in their family for generations.

Touching Ceremony

I’ve had the opportunity to photograph all kinds of ceremonies over the years. This one touched my heart in a whole new light. I am not sure what the groom read because it was from his Basque Culture but the way his voice carried was powerful. There was a prayer offered by the bride’s sisters that touched my heart. With so much chaos in the world it was nice to take a break and listen to this ceremony and prayers that were given to bless our nation with peace and reminding all of us about the simple act of practicing kindness and loving one another that we often don’t think about daily.

A wedding to Celebrate

As if my emotions weren’t already high after we finished family formals inside, I went outside to make sure I got the couple exiting the cathedral and noticed that a lot of their local friends and family were outside holding signs ready to celebrate from afar. They even performed a basque dance for the couple. We finished with some beautiful couples portraits so they can cherish the memories from this day. This day was not what they had planned. It was still very special in so many ways.

Who would have thought we would have had a pandemic that would completely transform the way we’re living in present times. I am so grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of this special ceremony. My heart was touched in many ways. I can not wait to celebrate with Ruth and Alex and their family next year. I am most excited to learn more about the Basque Culture.
